Landry Fields Audio Interview Transcript

Some have requested for the transcript of Landry’s phone interview, so here it is. I have a feeling Landry’s new BFF on Raptors is gonna be Lowry.

Host: Confirm this with me, but there seems to be a story going around, in the Air Canada Centre, you and your teammate Kyle Lowry, are already going above and beyond and are sharing shorts?

Landry: *laughs* Yeah, I don’t know how that got out, but you know what, I gotta confirm that, we’re sharing shorts right now, I’m waiting as he’s getting pictures taken so he’ll get the shorts.

Host: Well you know Landry, it promotes team bonding. You guys share everything including shorts.

Landry: Right! Share the ball, you know, share the shorts.

Host: I bet Dwayne Casey put you up to this, just to send a message.

Landry: I’m sure he did, and if he did, it’ll come back truthful.

Host: So i’m reading on your Twitter right now where you’re asking, is it an overkill to play Drake while you’re flying into Toronto?

Landry: Yeah, I figured it was a great welcoming into Toronto, putting the ipod on and nothing but Drake, i mean, who hasn’t done that before?

Host: Now you’ve resembled 1.35 million Torontonians. What is your first impression of the city?

Landry: It’s a beautiful city, Great people, learning a lot about everything, so excited to be here, Kyle Lowry’s acting crazy right now.

Host: So Landry, take us into that moment where you got your offer sheet. Like you got that offer from Toronto, and waiting for New York to match, because you’re really in between here, and that you have got no say. What’s that feel like wondering where you gonna be next year?

Landry: To be honest, I didn’t really worry about that much. Things that are out of my control, I try not to worry about it much. So when I signed that offer sheet, I kind of just sat back, spend time with my family and friends…….and kinda did some light work outs and carry on with my days.

Host: Just think how many couches you can buy now with this contract.

Landry: *Chuckles* Yeah, I already buy Jeremy ten!

Host: You got Jeremy ten?! Hahaha…speaking of ridiculous contracts, what do you make of everything that’s been going on the last couple of days that’s been playing out in New York?

Landry: Not too much, you know I’m extremely happy for Jeremy. I’d give him whatever contract he wants, to be honest, that’s how much I love the guy, so, extremely happy, I wish him the best wherever he ends up, whether it’s New York or Houston.

Landry: And what about Carmelo’s comments about ridiculous contracts, is that off-base?

Host: I don’t know! To be honest, in all fairness to him, I don’t know the context in which he said it, I’m not gonna make any judgment, he’s entitled to his own opinion, like i said before, no matter what context he said it.

Host: So when it became official that you were becoming a Toronto Raptor, who was the first former teammate that messaged you?

Landry: I think it was Jeremy, we had been back and forth about free agency and what was going on, and both our camps, so once it became official, he hit me up and told me congratulations, but quick great second was Jared Jeffries.

Host: Jared Jeffries was second. I don’t hear Amare, I don’t hear Melo. How far are those guys down?

Landry: Ahhh…*laughs*…still waiting on the call.

Host: Arghh…really??

Landry: Yeah…*laughs awkwardly*

Host: Aww…..okay, well, look you got a fresh new start here in Toronto. And you got a chance to, this is a real extreme opposite for you because as opposed to being a role play for you in New York, you got a real chance to be a legit key guy where you get a chance to not only be a starter, but be an impact guy. Does this put more pressure on you or are you the kind that says “Bring this On, I can do this.”

Landry: Oh, definitely Bring it on! To me it’s exciting because this is what I’ve been wanting to do for the p!st couple of years to the NBA and the ability to be here and be able to thrive in that kind of offence and defense as well, is something I look forward to and kinda like getting the shackles broken off and back to the real world.

%sCstrong>Host: Okay, let’s get Toronto a chance to get to know you, simple questions to get to know Landry Fields. As a ball player, what are you good at?

Landry: As a basketball player, I am good at almost everything, ver versatile, I can do a bit of everything, not a specialist in any regard, but hoping to get to a specialist level.

Host: As a human being, besides humility, what are you good at?

Landry: Patience.

Host: When a Raptor win the Championship, who would you thank first?

Landry: God. For the opportunity he has given me, love my faith, and love everything that man has done for me.

Host: Over mom?

Landry: Over mom, yeah.

Host: What would she say about that?

Landry: Oh, she would gladly welcome that. She’d be like “Oh you’d better pray to God first, Landry!”*mimics his mom’s voice*

Host: So talking about Mom and impressions that you did, posters on the wall that you have as a kid?

Landry: Ah, I have a lot of Kobe Bryant posters, to be honest. That was my favorite player.

Host: Does it feel good to shut him down?

Landry: Hahaha…I wouldn’t necessary go about shutting him down, but the ability to try and make things kind difficult for him , that was definitely a lot of fun.

Host: Okay, what one desert island CD you would take with you?

Landry: Hahah…oh man…that is a tough one….I don’t even know. …

Host: Well you have Drake in your ipod…

Landry: You know it’s funny, It’ll probably be Drake, not even kind of when flying over Toronto part, but it’ll probably be one of his CDs.

Host: Okay, more demanding, New York Media or Carmelo looking for the ball?

Landry: *laughs out loud* What is this plead the fifth??

Host: Hahaha!

Landry: Urm….The New York media.

Host: You gonna go with that one?

Landry: You know, it’s true though, it’s true. They’re like everywhere. They’re Like, little ants. Everywhere.

Host: Okay, Dark Knight Arises opens this Friday. Are you more likely going to see it during the opening weekend or wait a few days?

Landry: No, I’m more likely going to watch it at the 12 am showing on Thursday night.

Host: OhReally? You’re that jacked up for it?

Landry: Oh my goodness, I mean the Dark Knight is my favorite movie. Two years ago, I found out that they were making this one, that’s where patience comes in like i was saying earlier. I mean two years they’re gonna make us wait like that? Yeah, I will be there, 12am, Friday morning.

Host: Oh, I like him already (tells the other host). Okay,one thing that we do when someone new comes to town, like an athlete, we offer restaurants suggestions, to get them acquainted. So what’s your favorite food so that we can tell you what’s a good spot to get that food.

Landry: I love…two favorite food, Sushi and Italian.

Host: I would go with Italian…(recommends two place)
